 Silverwood Golf Club’s annual two-day major event took place at the weekend (Day 1 Saturday & Day 2 Sunday) with Sean Mc Stay rallying to victory with a fine score of 77 stableford points over the two days. The course was set up perfectly and all credit to the greenkeepers for their continuing great efforts. Sean, a deserved winner, opened up with a steady 35 points on Day 1 and his Day 2 score of 42 points was a remarkable effort for the 7 handicapper. Sean’s Day 2 scorecard was very consistent – highlights included 15 pars, 2 bogeys (5th, 11th holes) and a fine birdie on the 14th hole. In second place, also with a return of 77 points (beaten on countback) was relatively new member Aaron Litter. Aaron opened his account with 37 points on Day 1 and 40 points on Day 2. A solid two days of golf which will now see Aaron play of a 20 handicap for his fine efforts. Coming third, returning 76 points overall for was Frank Stevenson (11 handicap). Frank scored 39 points for Day 1 and a steady 36 points on Day 2 helped him secure third place. Gross prize this week was won by 1 handicapper Fintan McAreavey with 69 gross points. He completed his first round in -1 gross and his second round in +4 gross, giving him a +3 total for the two days. A fine effort which now sees him playing of scratch. Second gross was won by Michael Molloy with 68 gross points total. He completed is first round +5 (77) and his second round was -1 (71 gross). In fourth place also with a solid score of 75 points was nine handicapper Francis Kelly (37 pts Day 1, 38 points Day 2). In 5th spot was also with 75 points was Philip Mc Conville (37 pts Day 1, 38 points Day 2). Other prize winners included; Senior -James Scullion 74 pts, Best Junior- Ethan Headley 76pts, 1 st Day 1 – Matthew Clifford 44pts, 1st Day 2 – Dessie O’Hara 40pts, 2nd Day 1 – Joe O’Hanlon 39 points, 2nd Day 2 – Jerry Headley 40 pts, Best Junior Day 1 – Oisin Farquhar 39pts, Best Junior Day 2 – James Judge 38pts, Best Front 9 – Paul Marner 24pts, Best Back 9 – John McCaffrey 21pts.
