Chris takes Spring Cup honours at Silverwood

With the fairer milder weather prevailing, a large number of golfers took to the fairways at Silverwood Golf Club for the first ‘major’ event of 2017, the Spring Cup. The victor on the day was 18 handicapper Christopher Lamont (junior). Chris totalled 41 points for his round with 19 points on his front nine and a very impressive 22 on his back nine. He recorded three double bogeys on his front nine (holes 1,6&8) with three single bogeys (holes 6 & 7) and two pars (holes 5 & 7). An impressive birdie ‘2’ was obtained on the second hole. His back nine was very steady with 6 single bogeys and two pars (holes 17 & 18) with another birdie at the 13th hole. A great round for Chris early in the season.

In second place playing off a nine handicap was Seamus Patton with a +6 gross 78. A very steady round indeed with 7 pars recorded on his front nine and two single bogeys on the 6th and 8th holes. His back nine continued in similar fashion with 5 pars and 4 bogeys.

Taking third place was popular member Francis Kelly (9) also with a +6 gross 78 (39 points). Francis had two key birdies on his outward nine (holes 6 and 8) and a rallying run of pars from the 12th to 16th holes helped him to third place.

In fourth with 39 points was Com Doyle (12). Colm had 21 point for his front nine and 17 for his back nine.

Niall Morrow (23) claimed 5th spot with a strong 38 points.

The weekly gross prize was won by scratch golfer Fintan McAreavey with 34 gross points (74). Ten pars, 5 bogeys (holes 2,6,11,12,17) and three birdies (holes 1,4,13) made up his impressive round.

Low section winner was won by Joe Scullion with 38 points.  Martin Hamill (17) won the mid-section with 38 points and Martin McCann won the high section with 37 points.
