Noel Wins Captain’s Day 2017

It was the biggest competition of the year at Silverwood Golf Club, Captain’s Day, and with the course in excellent condition and a mostly dry day with a stiff breeze it was a good challenge to the member’s.

The winner with a great score of 44 points was Noel Beeton, Noel had a front nine score of 20 pts with four pars at the 1st 2nd 4th and 7th holes, one double bogey at the 6th hole, and four single bogeys, his back nine was even better with 24 points, he had a great start with six straight pars, and three bogeys to win by one point.

In 2nd place with another excellent score was Paul Gorman who had lead for most of day with 43 points, he had a front nine score of 21 pts that had one birdie at the 4th hole, two pars at the 2nd and 7th holes, and a mixture of bogeys and single bogeys, his back nine of 22 points contained three pars at the 14th 16th and 17th holes, two double bogeys at the 12th and 13th holes, and four single bogeys.

In 3rd place was Paul Doyle with 40 pts, he had a front nine of 20 pts with two birdies at the 2nd and 8th holes, two pars at the 4th and 8th holes, one double bogey at the 1st hole, and a back nine of 20 pts with five pars at the 12th 13th 14th 16th and 18th holes, and four single bogeys.

The gross prize was won by Kevin Munster with a gross 74, he had a front nine of 34 with three birdies at the 5th 8th and 9th holes, two bogeys at the 4th and 6th holes along with four pars, and a back nine of 40 with one bogey at the 10th hole, one double bogey at the 17th hole, and seven pars.

4th place went to Jason Holland with 40 points, he had a front nine off 23 points and a back nine of 17 points.

5th place went to Tony Beeton with 39 points, he had a front nine off 16 points and a back nine 23 points.

The 2nd gross prize went to Robert Blevins with a gross 77.

The senior prize was won by Gerry Canning with 39 pts

The junior prize was won by Nathan Thomson with 41 pts.

It was a great days golf had by all, and the committee and captain would like to thank all the staff at the golf and ski centre for all their help especially Catherine, Carol, and Sonia for the excellent breakfast prepared for all the members in the morning, Gill for opening the centre so early, and Raymond Mc Veigh and his green staff for the brilliant condition of the course throughout the year.
