It was a cold and frosty morning for golf at Silverwood Golf Club on Saturday, but there were a lot of very good scores over the 15 hole course.

The best score on the day came from the club Captain Michael Mc Donald with 38 pts to win the section 2 prize by five points, in 2nd place was Sam Frazer with 33 points, and 3rd place went to Paul Breen with 31 points.

In section 1 the winner was Shane Skelton with 36 points, 2nd was Kieran Murray with 36 pts, and 3rd place went to Shaun Stevenson with 34 pts.

The section 3 winner was Thomas Marley with 31 pts, 2nd was Matt Gilpin with 30 pts, and 3rd place went to Joseph Kelly with 29 pts.

The gross prize was won again by Fintan Mc Areavey with 33 gross points, and the 3rd prize was won by Finbar Headley with 31 pts.

The Annual Captain’s Challenge took place over the weekend and it was Seamus Patton vice-captain’s team that came out on top with a narrow 5 1/2 to 4 1/2 victory.

Patrick has best score in Christmas Hampers

Patrick Jordan who had the best score in the Christmas Hampers with a two under gross 70 and 40 pts.

It was the Christmas hampers up for grabs at Silverwood golf club this weekend, and with the course playing long and with wet conditions, it was another tough test for the members, the best score on the day was by Patrick Jordan who had 40pts with a 2 under par gross score of 70 to win the low section, with Sean Mc Stay in 2nd place with 38 pts, Patrick Mc Keown in 3rd place with 36 pts, Declan Mc Geown in 4th place with 36 pts and Kieran Murray in 5th place with 36 pts.

In the middle section 1st place went to Gary Ferguson with 37 pts, 2nd place Gareth Magee with 37 pts, 3rd place Frank Gallagher 37 pts, 4th place Brendan Mc Aleenan with 36 pts and 5th place Martin Boyle with 35 pts.

In the high section 1st place went to Mark Hampton with 38 pts, 2nd place Cormac Magee 38 pts, 3rd place Jim Mc Neice 33pts, 4th place Jonathan Kelly 33 pts, and 5th place Alan Steele with 32 pts.

The gross prize was won by Fintan Mc Areavey 30 gross pts

The senior Prize was won by Eamon Mc Conaghy with 35 pts

Alan Johnson who won the Winter cup the last competition of 2017 with 40 pts.

It was the final competition of the season at Silverwood golf club the Winter Cup, and with a lot of work being done to the greens and very heavy conditions it was a tough test for the players. The winner with 40 pts was Alan Johnston, he had five pars on his front nine at the 3rd 4th 7th 8th and 9th holes and four bogeys, and four pars and five bogeys on his back nine to win by two points.

In 2nd place was Shane O Neill with 38 pts, he had three birdies on his card at the 5th 11th and the 14th holes, eight pars, six bogeys and one double bogey.

In 3rd place was Jim Doran with 38 pts he had one birdie on his from nine at the 3rd hole along with four pars and four bogeys, his back nine had four pars and five bogeys.

The gross prize was won by Tony Beeton with 30 gross pts, he had a front nine of 40 and a back nine of 38 with two birdies at the 13th and 18th holes.

4th place went to Keith Totton with 38 pts, and 5th place went to Paul Marner with 37 pts.

The senior prize went to Eamon Nelson with 36 pts.
