Chris is the Captains Day winner

 

 

 

A big turn out on Saturday was seen at Silverwood Golf club for Mr. Thomas Feehan’s Captains day. Everyone had high expectations going into the day but the eventual winner was Mr Chris McKenna with an outstanding 42points.

 Fifteen-handicapper Chris got his round underway with a bogey at the first hole followed by a double bogey at the second. Steady pars on the 3rd and 4th holes were somewhat spoiled by a double bogey on 5th hole. A bogey on the 6th was followed by a birdie on the 7th. Chris finished his front nine with a par on the 8th and a bogey on the 9th hole. He started the inward nine in solid fashion with four pars from the 10th to 13th holes. He only carded three bogeys on the inward nine at holes 14th, 16th and 18th. A further two pars at the 15th and 17th secured him the best score of the day and a worthy winner of Captains Day 2010.

 In second place with 40 points was sixteen-handicapper Brendan Lappin. Brendan didn’t start his round well with no points recorded for the 1st, 5th and 6th holes. However he kicked into gear and completed his front nine with a birdie, par, par finish. He completed the inward nine in just two over par comprising of seven pars and two bogeys at holes 13 and 14.

 Third place was secured by Seamus Patton (9) with a total of 40 points, 77 gross. Seamus recovered well from a triple bogey at the first hole with a par at the second and birdies on the 3rd and 4th holes. He parred the remainder on the front 9, carding bogeys at the 5th and 9th holes. He had 3 single bogeys and 6 pars on the back nine to hold onto third place.

 Fourth place was attained by Paul Lavery (9) with 40 points also. Paul birdied the 1st and 4th holes which were cancelled out by a double bogey on the 6th hole, leaving Paul 3 over par for the outward nine. His inward nine compiled of 6 pars, a bogey (11th hole) a birdie (14th hole) and an unfortunate double bogey at the last hole.

 Fifth spot was claimed by Eamon Mc Cusker (17). Eamon started his round with 3 bogeys on the opening 3 holes followed by good pars at the 4th, 6th, 7th and 9th holes which put him in good position going onto the inward nine holes. He recorded bogeys from the tenth to the fifteenth hole. He finished his last 3 holes with a birdie, par, double bogey.

First gross prize was awarded to Kevin Munster with 37 gross points. Kevin recorded 5 birdies and 4 bogeys in his round for an impressive 71 gross. Second gross prize was awarded to Michael Molloy who completed his round in level par gross, 36 gross points.

 First junior prize was awarded to Stephen Morgan with 40 points. Second junior on the day was Dean Connelly with 40 points, narrowly beaten on the countback. First visitors prize went to Joe Dempsey (38 points) and second visitors prize went to Erril Maney (35points). Best past Captains prize, Jeff Conway (39points).

Senior prize, Jack Lagan (39 points). Best Front nine, Connor Mc Neice (24 points). Best Back nine, John Lynch (23 points). Closest to captains drive, Stephen Thompson, 2.4m. Longest Drive, Matthew Madden. Closest pin @ 2nd, Connor Mc Neice, 1.7m. Closest pin @12th, Damian Mc Dowell, 0.46m.

 Further luck is extended to the following Silverwood teams who all have reached their respective semi-finals; Sam Rutherford, Senior Cowdy, Junior Cup. The club wishes these teams the best of luck in the coming weeks.
