"Dream Team make their move!!"

Winter League Week 5

123 members took part in week5 of the Winter League programme at Silverwood Golf Club. The weather conditions, on Saturday especially, were excellent, and resulted in some fine scoring.

The 0-12 section saw two members of "The Dream Team" finally make their presence felt, by claiming first and second prize. First was Kieran Murray (8) who completed the 18 holes in a very respectable 74 strokes (42pts).Kieran over-came disappointment at the 4th (bogey) and the fifth (dble bogey) to complete his front nine with no less than 3 birdies at the 7th,8th and 9th holes. The birdie run continued onto the back nine where he recorded a further 3 at the 10th. Sadly there were minor blips at the 13th/14th, with both holes costing a bogey. However Kieran once more regained his composure and completed the remaining 4 holes in level par. to accumulate a further 21 pts.

Second in this section was Kieran's fellow Dream Team member, Michael Haughian (8) with 40 pts.

Michael recorded 19 pts on the front nine with the highlight being the rare birdie at the stoke index 2 5th, and the low point being the stroked 9th!!

The back nine was completed in 38 strokes to reward Michael with 21pts and the second prize.

Francis Kelly (8) made a welcome return to the winners circle by claiming 3rd with another 40 points. Francis bogeyed both the 17th and 18th,   to allow Michael to just edge past him on the count-back.

Gross winner in week 5 was Martin McAvoy (2) who made a welcome return to play following a minor injury.

Brendan McAleenan (14) came out on top in the 13-18 section with 41 points.

Brendan's birdies at the 8/9th holes rewarded him with 22pts, and whilst the back-nine proved to be a little trickier, his 2 at the 12th, helped Brendan to accumulate a further 19 points. Second and third winners both recorded 38pts, with Conor McGleenon (18) enjoying a stronger back-nine to just hold off David Greene (13) to third place.

Brian McShane (20) came out first in the 19-28 section, with 42 points. Three straight pars at the 7, 8 and 9th holes helped Brain to amass 22 points on the outward nine. A solid back-nine resulted in a further 20 points, to ensure a comfortable win.

Second and third prizes in this section were also decided on count-back. Paul William (21) and John Fitzpatrick (19) both returned scores of 38pts, with John's dbl bogey at the 18th allowing Paul to just sneak past him and claim second..
